Print filesWhat a good print file needs.
With a clean file, your print turns out the way you imagine it. Here you can read what matters – and what we check before anything is printed.
The basic rules
Six points for a print-ready file
The exact requirements – such as how much bleed – are listed with each product in the shop.
- ResolutionFor small formats around 300 dpi at final size. For large formats viewed from a distance, less is enough – if in doubt, ask us.
- CMYK colour spacePrinting is done in CMYK. RGB images are converted, which can shift colours.
- BleedExtend backgrounds and images beyond the edge so that no thin white edge remains after cutting.
- Final formatSet up the file in the final format or to scale – exactly as the finished product should be.
- FontsEmbedded or converted to outlines, so that nothing gets substituted.
- Cut contour lineFor contour cutting, as a separate line in the file. If it is missing, we will create it.
Three ways to send your file
During checkout in the shop.
What we check – and what we don’t
Our file check is technical. You know the content better than we do.
What we check
Before every print.
- Format and final size
- Resolution for the chosen size
- Colour space and bleed
- Cut contour line where needed
What we don’t check
That is your responsibility.
- Content and spelling
- Addresses and phone numbers
- Prices and other details
- Placement of elements
Questions about print files
What happens to my print file?
Every file is technically checked before production: format, resolution, colour space, bleed and – where needed – the cut contour line. If something is not right, we get in touch before printing. We do not check content or spelling; that is your responsibility.
Will the print look exactly like it does on screen?
Not quite: a screen emits light, a print reflects it. Small differences between screen and material are normal, and spot colours such as Pantone are approximated in digital printing. Where colour is critical, it is worth looking at a sample.
My file is too large to upload – what now?
Provide a cloud link during checkout, for example Google Drive, WeTransfer or Dropbox. The link must be accessible without logging in and remain valid for at least 14 days from the date of order.
I don’t have a print file – is that still possible?
Yes. We design your artwork to your specifications – from logo stickers to exhibition banners. The shop also has a designer tool you can use to create your own design. More under design service.
Unsure about your file?
Send it to us using the form – we will tell you whether it is ready for print.
